Citrus Rind Pots

Instead of throwing the old citrus rinds in the compost when you are finished eating the fruit out of it, why not reuse them as seed raising pots.

Consider putting a hole in the bottom of the rind to stop it retaining too much water around the germinating seed.

Then just fill the rind with seedling mix, position one or two seeds in each. Position the rinds in a tray to stop them falling over, and moisten the mix. You can later thin out the seedlings to one strong plant per rind.

You can transplant the whole ‘pot’, into the garden or a larger pot for growing on. The rind pot will decay into the soil, adding a little extra fertilizer close to the root system of the growing plant.

what a fabulous idea! I'm going to keep that one in the back of my mind for spring. It'll be especially great for using up my empty avacado shells or orange 'cups'. Bravo to you for such a grand idea!
